Our approach to technology
How we use AI, and what it can and can't do.
We use AI throughout our process, not to write your legal documents, but to make sure the documents we draft actually do what you asked. Here is exactly how, and where the lines are.
A solicitor does the legal work
AI never gives you legal advice and never signs off your documents. A qualified Bonsai Law solicitor reviews every will, agreement and draft before it reaches you. The Solicitors Regulation Authority requires human oversight of legal work, and so do we.
AI supports, it doesn't decide
We use AI to draft from our own clause library, to check your answers for internal consistency, and to read your documents back to you in plain English. It flags things for a human to look at. It does not make the decisions.
Zero-retention, not training data
Our AI runs on enterprise infrastructure under a zero-retention contract. Your instructions are not stored by the AI provider after processing, and they are never used to train a public model. What you tell us stays between you and Bonsai Law.
Handled under our normal duties
Everything you share is covered by the same client confidentiality, data protection and professional obligations as any other work we do. It is processed in line with UK GDPR and our Privacy Policy.
What the AI does
- Draft from our reviewed clause library
- Check your answers for inconsistencies in real time
- Explain technical points in plain English
- Summarise what your documents actually do
- Speed up the routine parts so your solicitor spends time where it matters
What it never does
- Give you legal advice
- Decide what is right for your situation
- Approve or finalise a document without a solicitor
- Access your instructions to train a public model
- Replace the qualified person responsible for your matter
Human-drafted. Machine-checked. Solicitor-signed.
That is the whole model in one line. Technology makes our work faster and more consistent. It does not change who is responsible for it, which is a qualified solicitor, regulated by the SRA. If you'd like to see it in action, our wills and shareholders' agreement questionnaires use exactly this approach.
