3. The categories of cookies we use

Essential cookies

These are necessary for the website to function and cannot be switched off in our systems. They include a first-party cookie that records your cookie preferences (bonsai_cookie_consent), which we keep for 12 months so we do not have to ask you on every visit. Essential cookies do not require your consent.

Analytics cookies

These help us understand how visitors use the site, for example which pages are most visited, so we can improve it. We use Google Analytics for this. Analytics cookies are off by default and are only set if you turn them on. They rely on your consent.

Security cookies

These protect our forms from spam and abuse. We use Google reCAPTCHA to tell genuine enquiries apart from automated ones. Because this is a security measure, we rely on our legitimate interest in keeping the site and your enquiries safe. It is on by default, and we disclose it here so you are fully informed. You can turn it off in your preferences.

Platform Analytics (Hosting Provider)

Our website is hosted by Emergent, which sets two first-party analytics cookies at the hosting layer: __emg_vid (12-month lifetime, aggregate visitor identification) and __emg_sid (30-minute sliding session, session identification). These cookies are set by our hosting infrastructure and cannot be disabled through cookie consent controls or removed from our application. They are HttpOnly, Secure, SameSite=Lax, and do not track behaviour across other websites. We have logged a feature request with Emergent for hosting-layer consent gating and will update this policy when the option becomes available.

4. Third-party services we use

Some cookies are set by trusted third parties whose services help us run and improve the website. These providers have their own privacy and cookie policies, which we encourage you to read.

• Google Analytics, provided by Google, for website analytics. Set only if you enable analytics cookies. IP addresses are anonymised. See Google's privacy policy at policies.google.com.

5. How to withdraw or change your consent

You can change your choices at any time by selecting Cookie preferences in the footer of any page, which reopens the cookie banner. Turning analytics off stops any further analytics cookies from being set, and we tell your browser to disable the Google Analytics tag. Your choice is saved for 12 months, after which we will ask you again.

As well as our cookie banner, you can control and delete cookies through your browser settings. Most browsers let you block or remove cookies and warn you before a cookie is stored.
